THIS WE BELIEVE, TEACH, AND CONFESS
The trend within the Christian Church today, to deny certain basic teachings of the Scriptures, has led to much confusion on the part of many Christians. Therefore, we feel it proper to state, in simple language, what we believe as Christians and as Lutherans.
WE BELIEVE
that the only true God is the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit - three distinct persons in one divine being.
Deuteronomy 6:4, Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 8:4, 2 Corinthians 13:14
WE BELIEVE
that the Bible is the Word of God. By this we mean that God Himself, in different ways, gave to the various men the words they were to write, thus making the Bible factually true in all statements. This applies not only to those parts which deal with spiritual matters, but to everything written in Scriptures.
2 Peter 1:21, 2 Timothy 3:16, 1 Corinthians 2:13
WE BELIEVE
that God created the world, as stated in the first chapter of Genesis, in six ordinary days. We consider
it to be contrary to Scripture to teach that all things came into being through a process called evolution.
WE BELIEVE
that, according to God's almighty power, miracles were performed as stated in Scriptures, either by God Himself, or through His servants to whom He gave this power.
John 20:30-31, Acts 14:8-12
WE BELIEVE
that all people are sinners, born in sin and committing sin: John 3:5-6, Romans 3:9-10. Furthermore, we believe that those who live and die without the Savior, Jesus Christ, are lost.
Romans 6:23, John 3:36
WE BELIEVE
that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, true God as well as true man, born of a virgin. He too upon Himself
the sins of the world, made full payment for them and won pardon for all. We joyfully
proclaim the good news, that whoever believes Jesus Christ as Savior receives this pardon won through His suffering and death.
John 1:1-14, 1 Peter 2:24, Romans 5:6-8
WE BELIEVE
that Jesus Christ, put to death on the cross on Good Friday, rose physically and bodily on Easter Day, proclaiming Himself victor over sin and death.
Luke 24:1-8, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
WE BELIEVE
in a life after death, namely, that those who have made Jesus their hope, enter eternal life
(heaven), and that those who die without Jesus, experience eternal death (hell).
Mark 16:16, Matthew 25:31-46
WE BELIEVE
that when a Christian dies, his soul is immediately received by God in heaven, and on the
l
ast day, the day of public judgment, the Christian's resurrected body will be joined to the soul in heaven to enjoy heavenly eternally.
2 Corinthians 5:1, Luke 16:19-31, Acts 7:59, 1 Corinthians 15:12-57
WE BELIEVE
that salvation is granted to a person, not on the basis of his/her works, but on the basis of God's grace in Christ Jesus alone.
Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:23-24
